Franz Lehner's research interests cover noncommutative harmonic analysis and combinatorics. His contributions to harmonic analysis include spectral computations on free groups and lamplighter groups, in particular a solution of the so-called Atiyah conjecture, and papers on several questions arising in Voiculescu's Free Probability.His contributions to combinatorics include a general theory of cumulants as invariants of the symmetric group and various aspects of classical and noncommutative cumulants.
